Chardonnay
AEGERTER BOURGOGNE BLANC 2005, FRANCE

Dry white wine, 100% Chardonnay, old vines. This wine has a brilliant yellow-gold color. The generous bouquet shows aromas of hazelnut, toast, caramel and praline, enhanced by the hint of dried fruits. In the mouth it is full and frank, and held together by a definite firmness. The finish is full and lasting.

MORGAN CHARDONNAY 2005, SANTA LUCIA

The 2005 vintage was a cool one with a late harvest – the Chardonnay harvest, in fact, didn’t finish until the beginning of November. Still, the grapes retained good acidity. This wine was all barrel-fermented in Burgundy barrels, 30 percent of which were new, then it was aged for 10 months. Seventy-five percent of the Chardonnay went through malolactic fermentation, so the wine still has some zip. It displays bright flavors of lemon, apple, tangerine and mineral. The oak is fairly obvious right now but should integrate more in the months to come. The weight, richness and balancing acidity of this Chardonnay, which sells for $45, make it a wine that will pair well with richer seafood dishes – think crab or lobster with melted butter, sea scallops in a beurre blanc or seafood pasta with a creamy sauce.

SHEA WINE CELLARS CHARDONNAY 2002, OREGON

This wine is golden in color. It has a beautiful bouquet of honeyed citrus fruits and apricots. The palate has deep flavors of pear, mandarin orange, and lime. Focused acidity leads to a long mineral finish.

ROBERT CRAIG CHARDONNAY 2006, SONOMA

The 2006 Robert Craig “Durell Vineyard” is made from the vineyard’s superlative Sand Hill Block and is an excellent example of terroir-driven wine in California. Located at the southern border of Sonoma’s Carneros District, this cool, windy vineyard is heavily influenced by the San Pablo Bay. Shallow sandstone marked with rocks and fossils leave the vines to struggle and develop slowly, creating intense, concentrated fruit. Pear and white flower aromas lure you in and are mimicked on the palate, which is mineral and clean, with hints of lychee and nuts. Crisp and balanced with great fruit and acid, the Durell is a refreshing, elegant chardonnay.

DOMAINE VINCENT GIRARDIN MEURSAULT 2006 LES NARVAUX

Bubble gum on the nose. Racy acidity on the palate. Well-balanced though, with sweet and sour fruit. Very mineral, with some strong vanilla from the oak. On the finish, some candied, preserved lemon.
