Laura Alberts Hires “Sharp” Craft Beer Expert

May 29th, 2010 karen No comments

Pat Sharp, from Grand Rapids, has joined the staff at Laura Alberts as beer tender for Wednesday night’s Growler Hour and special event beer dinners. Pat attended Winthrop College and moved to Charleston to become part of the craft beer movement. He is a passionate beer taster open to trying anything. Pat adds, “That’s what is great about the craft beer revolution; there is always something new and different to try.” Pat comes to Laura Alberts from Grapevine Wine Shop and Wine Bar in the Village of Baxter near Fort Mill, South Carolina. The flavor profiles of craft beer are as diverse now as those of wine. The beertender is comparable to a sommelier leading the consumer to the beer that best matches his palate.

Dinner with Winemaker Adam Campbell

May 5th, 2010 karen No comments

Wow!  After selling Elk Cove wines from Oregon for over five years I finally met the man that makes it all possible, Adam Campbell.  Adam’s parents started the winery back in the 70′s and had vineyard workers, their four children!   Well, they all grew up and moved on  but Adam came back to  work the vines and continue creating the fine wines his family has always produced.  We started the evening with the Pinot Gris, which always sells out of stock before the vintage is up.  As always, our Executive Chef Matt Brigham and our Sous Chef Matt Cole created dishes that complemented each wine.  Usually there is a favorite course….not sure this time…each course and wine was a mouth explosion of flavors that made everyone woo and ahh.

Growler Hour 5/5

May 5th, 2010 karen No comments

Cascade Kriek Ale, Cascade Apricot Ale are the new beers we have in Laura Alberts.  They are made by Cascade Brewing in Portland, Oregon.  Both beers are fruit driven, the Kriek being cherry and the Apricot Ale, what else, apricot.  They received very high ratings and are highly allocated. These beers will pair well with Charleston’s heat and humidity.  They are refreshing, tart, with a bit of Raccoon Lodge funk.

For all our Hop Heads, we will be putting Mojo Risin on tap when space comes available. This shouldn’t be long.

Come let the Senoritas in the LA help you celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a “Kolsch-a-Rita”.
